Arunima Sinha - The Inspirer !!

Recently, I happened to be in the National Capital for State Level Youth Convention which was well organized by Rama Krishna Mission on the eve of Swami Vivekananda's 150th Birth Anniversary. The convention was held in Rama Krishna Math in New Delhi.

Before going to the convention, I did a good homework to know at least some of the speakers at the convention in which Arunima Sinha was also one of the speakers.

When I was having breakfast on the first day, there was a girl sitting beside me with her brother. I started the conversation as I often can't resist myself from talking to a stranger beside me.

Me : Hai, where are you from?

She : Uttar Pradesh, and you?

Me : I'm form Andhra Pradesh

bla bla bla...

What made me laugh is that we were enthused to know each other's names only at the end of the conversation and I was taken to awe that she was Arunima Sinha. I didn't recognize her for the obvious reason of not seeing her anywhere before.

Here comes her entire story, which helps us inspire our self and boosts up our self confidence.

Arunima Sinha was a National Volley Ball player. When she was traveling in a train to attend an interview at CISF in April 2011, a few rowdies boarded the same compartment of the train in which she was traveling. She was thrown out of the moving train by them for resisting them snatching her gold chain.

A train from the opposite direction ran over one of her legs. 49 trains had passed over her leg until someone noticed her. She was rushed to the hospital with serious leg and pelvic injuries and the struggle for life has begun. However, she managed to survive with a leg amputated.

The sad part of the story was according to the police, she was either attempting suicide or met with an accident while crossing the railway track. She claimed in the court that the police were telling lies. Such is the system we have !!

On the survival bed in AIIMS, She announced her goal of climbing Mt. Everest. Though government of India  had provided her job assurance, Though many ridiculed her, she was just silent and was determined to show her vengeance in her actions. That was the time she had gone through Swami Vivekanada's complete works which inspired her to the core.

Her brother had quit the job and encouraged her to reach her goal. she had made this idea of climbing Mt. Everest as her only mission in her life and lived totally to fulfill it. She excelled in the basic mountaineering course from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi, with a plastic leg.

After undergoing many hardships, she fulfilled her dream of conquering Mt. Everest on May 31st 2013 and she is world's first woman amputee to conquer Mt. Everest. She proudly hoisted our National Flag and placed a photo of Swami Vivekananda on the summit of Mt. Everest. Now she was inspiring thousands of youth, going through out the country.

I was shocked when such a lady who was so successful in her life, sat beside me during her breakfast. There was no sign of gloat on her face and was so down to earth that she was present in every session and listened carefully to all the speakers in the convention. When I asked for a photograph with her, she immediately accepted my request and the result is here. I find an ultimate bliss on her charming face which increased my confidence many folds.

It was an eye and ear feast to listen to her when she was addressing a huge gathering of youth. I felt blessed listening to her and I owe a lot to Rama Krishna Mission for organizing such a magnificent event. My eyes were moist when listening to her and I am running out of words when describing how I felt. She need all of us to learn from our faults and criticisms.

She is the live example depicting that human power is endless.

After her speech none got the opportunity to have a photograph with her. I felt blessed to be with her. :):)

My India !!

This is in response to TOUCH Thursdays No.2. You can know about it here

The prompt : Mark is one of the characters in the latest preeti's book. He is from UK. He has not been to India yet, but plans to visit. He has lived in UK, all his life. If you had to tell Mark about India, what would you tell him?

Dear Mark,

I like to congratulate you for you have got a life-changing idea of visiting India, which is the one of the oldest living cultures in the world. You can really have the time of your life on your trip to India and I'm sure you will hesitate to leave.

There will not be any room for boredom and loneliness for you as we are already over-populated. In Indian hospitality, the guest is seen as divine and treated with great love. We welcome you with a good smile on our cheeks.

To the best of my knowledge, India is the only country where you can see a Church, a Mosque and a Temple in a single street and this depicts the brotherhood of Indians.

No wonder people from all over the world, especially the west, come to India in search of spirituality. Indeed, it is only one of the many interesting aspects you find in India.

I came to know that you are interested in Indian girls. The girls here used to be gorgeous with the sign of tradition and culture dancing over their faces, but, they are all being carried away by your western culture.

In India, people don't hesitate to bow down their heads. This is a land of forgiveness.

We are the ones who invented Chess. The 'Place Value System and Decimal System' were developed here in 100 B.C. The world's first University was established in Takshila in 700 B.C. Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus were originated in India. India is the knowledge hub of the world.

Five aspects of life India teaches one to pay homage everyday are

  • Knowledge.
  • Nature.
  • Our Forefathers
  • All other living things
  • All Human beings

The amazing thing you should know is that in Indian culture, the Mother is revered above everything else. This is the reason all the Indians say "Bharat Maata ki jai" (Victory for Mother India). You cannot hear any Indian say "Bhaarat Pita ki Jai" (Victory for father India), the sole reason being is, the mother is held in the highest esteem as a picture of grace.

You can find different religions, castes and sub-castes across India. Though people across the country uses different languages, they speak with heart. Here, we even have a good reservation system, which has been lowering the quality output in any field.

India, land where a great Hindu monk "Swami Vivekananda" lived is rich in heritage and culture. "If India doesn't exist in world, all the spirituality and goodness becomes extinct", said Swami Vivekananda. "If you want to know India, read Swami Vivekananda", said Rabindranath Tagore. I suggest you to read the complete works of Swami Vivekananda before you leave for India.

I am ready with a good plan to visit every corner of India with you. You will definitely find the ultimate bliss in this country. To explore my own country is in my Wish-list

If there is one place on the earth where all the dreams of living men have found, it is India!

With Love,
Madhav.

The One U Cannot Have ( TOUCH )

This morning welcomed me with a blog of Preeti Shenoy , my one of the favorite writers. I love to read her writings, be it novels or blog posts. My first bookish encounter with her was in the summer of 2012 when I grabbed the book "Life Is What You Make It" and was done with it in a single stretch.

The same happened with the remaining books "34 Bubblegums and Candies", "Tea For Two and A Piece Of Cake", "The Secret Wishlist".

Here is my Wish-list .

She came up with a writing prompt as a part of a contest with fun, TOUCH (The One U Cannot Have), Preeti's upcoming novel. I couldn't resist myself from participating in the contest.

The first prompt THURSDAY no.1 is  :

If I could have anyone I choose as my 'forever friend'/'life partner' , I would choose the one who

  • Fights with me for silly things and a single sorry can make it all clear after many hours of quarrel.
  • Listens to me with patience and also make me listen to her.
  • Pats me on my shoulder for my success ( whenever I think I'm successful )
  • Can wipe my tears and make me sleep on her lap whenever I feel low.
  • Makes me laugh even in a catastrophe by cracking silly jokes.
  • Can laugh with me till our stomach bursts out.
  • Can talk to me with eyes.
  • Can take care of her's as well as my parents.

She is the best in making me smile. Indeed, I enjoy her company. We have shared many sorrows and happy moments. We had many cloud 9 moments together.

Deep inside, I care for her
I need her as my friend forever.   (whoa!! It rhymed )

My world spins faster with her.
I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow.

Happy Birthday brotheruu !!

Hai  !!

Do you feel that you have the best sibling anyone can ever have?

If yes, hurray!! welcome to the clan of the most happiest beings.

Today my super cute brother turns a rotten old age of 26. I wish I could be there (He lives in Bangalore) to celebrate with him. I never gifted him on any occasion. Today, I dedicate this blog post for him, for I believe words are stronger than many other things in the world.

I'm amongst those lucky people who have a sibling so perfect, that i can spend my life trying to be as good as him, and the pursuit even if not successful will refine me as a person.

Dear Lalith,

No one could make our great grandma laugh like you do. You were her favorite all the time. There are times that I envied you about this.
  • The way you care for all our family members, with your unique, steady, peaceful but powerful love.
  • Your method of caring.
  • Your consistent quest for knowledge.
  • The way you advise me regarding my career.

are perhaps the things i love the most in you.

I still long for the day we fought like crazy for just a pillow. When we were younger, we fought, drove each other crazy for simple things ( I know that those were bigger things then ) and I wish we fight a lot more from now on.

When I was going through our childhood albums, I found many photos of just you. May be the photographer liked your cute cheeks then. These were the snaps taken on 14th of Jan 1996.

Happy birthday my brother. You are the very first friend life gave me. Thank you for sharing a mother and father and a beautiful childhood with me and also I thank you for sharing your credit card details too :):):)

Sorry for complaining dad about you, whenever you went out for playing gully cricket without informing him.

Sorry for jumping on the carrom board when you were playing it with our cousins without me.

I wish nothing but happiness for you and blessings from joy, peace, success, long life, good health.

Today is your birthday and I want to capture the situation to tell my small world of people, about how lucky I am to have specifically you, as my brother and dear friend. Happy birthday !

I am sure you will enjoy this birthday and we (mom & dad) wanted to let you know that you will be in our thoughts beyond measure.
